2,000,000 people in Quebec don’t have access to a family doctor

The Daily Social Media Marketing Campaign News
By Howard Oliver, CEO, What If What Next

We came across this campaign while on holiday in Quebec this week.

The Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) mounted DIAGNOSTIC, a documentary YouTube. The film follows five family physicians who invite the public to a behind-the-scenes peek at their professional lives while discussing the scope and impact of the shortage of family physicians in Québec. It simply yet powerfully portrays the physicians’ dedication to their patients’ well-being, their concerns about the growing shortage of family doctors, and the increasingly difficult working conditions they face.

This is a big issue for Quebec. General practitioners play a critical role in Québec’s health system. Whether in clinics, hospitals or palliative care units, in obstetrics, intensive or emergency care, or in CLSCs, family physicians are present and actively contributing to the health system province-wide. In the face of the deteriorating conditions of their profession and increasingly limited access to general practitioners, five family doctors share their views and predictions about the future of their profession. “DIAGNOSTIC is a compelling documentary that strikes a chord in the way it candidly reveals the experiences and opinions of the doctors on camera,” says Dr. Louis Godin, President of the FMOQ. Its objective is loud and clear: to open up a dialogue about the importance of family medicine in Québec.

The FMOQ has a Facebook page where you can find a family doctor at: http://www.facebook.com/medecindefamille. Their web site can be found at: http://www.fmoq.org/en/default.aspx
